Dangerous
to sinners 1 Samuel 2:30-34 "Therefore the Lord, the God of Israel,
declares: 'I promised that your house and your father's house would
minister before me forever.' But now the Lord declares: 'Far be it
from me! Those who honor me I will honor, but those who despise me
will be disdained. 31 The time is coming when I will cut short your
strength and the strength of your father's house, so that there will
not be an old man in your family line 32 and you will see distress
in my dwelling. Although good will be done to Israel, in your family
line there will never be an old man. 33 Every one of you that I do
not cut off from my altar will be spared only to blind your eyes
with tears and to grieve your heart, and all your descendants will
die in the prime of life. 34 " 'And what happens to your two sons,
Hophni and Phinehas, will be a sign to you‑‑they will both die on
the same day.="
Defender
Psalm 72:4 He will defend the afflicted among the people and save
the children of the needy; he will crush the oppressor.
Delicious
Psalm 34:8 Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man
who takes refuge in him.
Delightful
Psalm 43:4 Then will I go to the altar of God, to God, my joy and
my delight. I will praise you with the harp, O God, my God.
Deliverer
Psalm 140:7 O Sovereign Lord, my strong deliverer, who shields my
head in the day of battle‑‑
Dependable
Isaiah 37:10, 36-37 The Assyrian said,
ASay
to Hezekiah king of Judah: Do not let the god you depend on deceive
you when he says, 'Jerusalem will not be handed over to the king of
Assyria.'@...
36 Then the angel of the Lord went out and put to death a hundred
and eighty‑five thousand men in the Assyrian camp. When the people
got up the next morning‑‑there were all the dead bodies! 37 So
Sennacherib king of Assyria broke camp and withdrew. He returned to
Nineveh and stayed there.
Deposit
2 Cor. 5:5 Now it is God who has made us for this very purpose and
has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.
Desirable
Psalm 73:25 Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I
desire besides you.
Devoted
to us Luke 15:4‑7 "Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and
loses one of them. Does he not leave the ninety‑nine in the open country
and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? 5 And when he finds it,
he joyfully puts it on his shoulders 6 and goes home. Then he calls his
friends and neighbors together and says, 'Rejoice with me; I have found
my lost sheep.' 7 I tell you that in the same way there will be more
rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety‑nine
righteous persons who do not need to repent.
Discipliner
Hebrews 12:7‑11 Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as
sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father? 8 If you are not
disciplined (and everyone undergoes discipline), then you are
illegitimate children and not true sons. 9 Moreover, we have all had
human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much
more should we submit to the Father of our spirits and live! 10 Our
fathers disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God
disciplines us for our good, that we may share in his holiness. 11 No
discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however,
it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been
trained by it.
Dwelling place
Psalm 90:1 Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all
generations. |
