Bob and Sharon Hallissy - Dallas, Texas

My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.   (Luke 1:46b-47, NIV)

 About our mission

Today about 350 million people speaking over 2200 languages do not have the Bible in their own language. Wycliffe’s vision is to see the Bible accessible to all people in the language they understand best. To make this vision a reality, Wycliffe also focuses on community development, literacy development and church partnerships.

Why we're here

In order to be understood, a written Bible must not only be in the language of the people, but it must be in a script they can read. Bible translation teams face special technical challenges when complex scripts are needed for the project: computers, having been designed primarily by and for Westerners, do not always support the alphabet and script needed by the translator.

Bob is part of an international team developing computer fonts and software that enable translation projects in some of the least-evangelized parts of the world. The primary emphasis for Bob's work is Arabic script which is used by hundreds of minority languages around the world. For more information see http://scripts.sil.org/

How you can pray for us

Note: Our [more-or-less] monthly prayer update is sent electronically to our prayer and financial partners, including many at FEC. Let us know if you would like to be added to our distribution.

Praises and Prayer Requests:

We don't know exactly what a broom tree looks like, but 1 Kings 19 is the source for the name of The Broom Tree Refuge (TBTR) in the Ozark Mountains near Mountain View, Arkansas. As Elijah received sustenance and strength from the Lord under the broom tree, so today's weary or hurting workers receive restoration and renewal at this beautiful and peaceful Refuge. We spent last week at TBTR to help friends and colleagues Don and Ruth pack in anticipation of their move to Georgia. The peace of God rests on this place, and we are glad to have benefited from it.

  • Praise God for the opportunity we have had to be at The Broom Tree Refuge.
  • Pray for Don and Ruth as they say goodbyes and make the transition to Atlanta.

Bob and NRSI's recently-formed Arabic Script team are making progress on an updated version of the Scheherazade Arabic font.

  • Praise God for Lorna, Iska, Sharon C and Peter who are bringing fresh vision and energy to the Arabic font work.
  • Pray for Lorna who is taking the burden of leadership for the team, and for Bob and Iska who have many implementation details to work through.

David has enjoyed hosting another set of his British mates for a visit to Colorado. He spends a great deal of time and energy with each one and is quite tired.

  • Please pray that he will be able to catch up on sleep and have renewed energy for all the activities in which he is involved.

A huge praise: David will be able to spend a week with us the middle of May!

  • Pray for this visit to be a special family time for all of us.

Sharon has another task to do on the computer of entering sensitive personnel matters into the database.

  • Please pray that she will have clear thinking and be able to remember the steps needed to do careful and efficient work.
