"Stop doing wrong, learn to do right! Seek justice, encourage the oppressed. Defend the cause of the fatherless, plead the case of the widow." Isaiah 1:17
Faith Church, as a part of its mission, desires to love God's world, and an important aspect of loving the world is to love the community around us. Faith Church wants to be an externally focused church, and we feel that is biblical. Prior to the time of the Babylonian captivity, Isaiah had a message from God that pointedly spoke to the internal focus of the Israelites. In fact it was an exhortation to move beyond formal worship to true righteousness. This exhortation applies to us today. (Isaiah 1:13-17)
Our goal through these outreaches has been to move past just "worship" to a faith that exudes love. The core of Biblcal love is a concern of the other over and above the needs of self. Jesus embodied this love (agape) and calls his disciples to do the same. What William Temple said is true - "The Church is the only society that exists for the benefit of those who are not its members."
