Peter and Rebecca Schug - Ukarumpa, Papua New Guinea with

Our mission

Peter and Rebecca Schug are missionaries to Ukarumpa, Papua New Guinea with Wycliffe Associates.  They have been serving as missionaries since 2006, first with SIM, then JAARS and now as a part of Wycliffe Associates.  They have 3 children: Isaiah (Feb 2007), Susannah (Aug 2008) and Zeke (Dec 2010).

Wycliffe Associates (WA) was created to recruit, mobilize and send teachers, managers, construction crews, IT professionals, administrators, and businessmen and women into the field as short-term and full-time missionaries. WA staff and volunteers fill critical roles in the progress of Bible translation around the world.

Why we're herePeter will be working with the Construction and Maintenance (CAM) department of SIL’s base in Papua New Guinea.  This allows those whose gifts are Bible translation, evangelism, church planting and such things to be free of the hassle of bad wiring, broken pipes, household repairs and focus on bringing the Good News to people groups who have never heard about Jesus before.

How you can pray for us:

Praises:

  • Being able to communicate in Tok Pisin after only 8 weeks of study. We are amazed at how quickly we are absorbing the language and how even Isaiah and Susannah are being able to speak and understand simple phrases.
  • Enjoying God’s creation. Whether it is hiking through a rain forest type jungle or swimming along coral reefs we are continually surrounded by God’s beauty.
  • The relationships we have developed; both with other missionaries at Pacific Orientation Course (POC) and with the local people.
  • Peter was able to help finish a water project at Ukarumpa that had been in progress for 2 years. This supplies running water for everyone’s toilets and showers.
  • That we all are enjoying our new roles here and the adjustment has been surprisingly easy. Peter enjoys work, Isaiah loves school and the rest of us are having fun too.

Requests:

  • For health during village living, Peter especially has been having many infections.
  • That we continue to grow in our understanding of PNG culture and Tok Pisin.
  • Pray for funds for a new computer and to cover the medevac expenses.
  • Pray for safety as we are in the village March 23—April 26 and as we travel back to Ukarumpa on May 1.
  • Pray that the kids will enjoy village living and for smooth a transition back to Ukarumpa in May.
